Son of Pearl, real name Tedi Robinson, is a multi-instrumentalist and bassist who has gained recognition for his distinctive sound, which he calls Mellowfunkism — a fusion of smooth funk, soulful grooves, rock, jazz, and modern musical elements. He plays a variety of instruments including 4-string, 5-string, and 8-string bass guitars, fretless bass, congas, bongos, water drums, and kalimba and keyboards. A prolific songwriter, producer, and vocalist, he owns Poor Robin's Publishing and is signed to GSR Records (GangStir Rock Records). His travels to many countries including Germany, Korea, France, and Kuwait have colored the way he gives music to the world. More popular in the UK and Canada than the United States, he is seen internationally as a Renaissance Man of Funk, Rock, and Jazz. His albums 'Eclecticism' and 'My Mother's Favorites and A Few of Mine' showcase the versatility of his songwriting. He is also a member of the Recording Academy, pursuing a Grammy nomination.
